As a rough guide, you need about 1 kilowatt of sauna heater for every 1.3 cubic metres of room, which is roughly 45 cubic feet. Measure the room in cubic metres, then add power if the sauna is outdoors, has a lot of glass, or has any uninsulated stone or concrete inside. When you are between two sizes, go up.
Multiply the length by the width by the height of the sauna interior in metres. A room 2 metres long, 2 metres wide, and 2 metres high is 8 cubic metres. Using the guideline above, 8 cubic metres divided by 1.3 lands around 6 kilowatts, so a 6kW heater is a sensible starting point for that room.
The simple calculation assumes a well-built, insulated sauna indoors. Real rooms lose heat at different rates, so add power in these cases.

If your number falls between two heaters, choose the larger one. A heater with a little room to spare reaches temperature comfortably and is not run flat out every time. A heater that is slightly undersized struggles to get an outdoor room hot on a cold day.
